"A beautiful old hotel, which has been restored with love and care, to its formal glory. We loved it. The location is close to the town. Take good shoes, as the whole geography is very hilly. The family were fantastic hosts, very interesting, caring and kind. We felt very secure and comfortable. We highly recommend, and will return, as we enjoyed it so much."

"We were aware there is no oven and so were not let down by that, but it would have been useful. Whilst it is made clear that it is self-catering, a basic room clean and making up of the beds (since fresh linen was provided) part way through an 11 night stay would have been welcome."

"We were impressed with the house itself and our studio was very tastefully done with almost everything you could want and Helena our wonderful host was very happy to provide anything else. She welcomed us warmly on arrival and then did all she could to make sure we enjoyed our stay which we did very much - she even allocated part of the beautiful gardens to us for our private use. The views are fantastic from the gardens and the pool and it's surroundings are very good with comfy sun loungers. The walk to the old town is quite steeply downhill though enjoyable but we mainly got the bus back which stopped right outside the property. Even though the road is so near we were surprised how quiet and peaceful the site was."

"We had thought there was a balcony to our studio but that was not the case. Helena has been in touch with booking.com to get that mistake put right in their description so hopefully that won't be a problem for other people."

"Quiet location. Lots of space to sit out and a great pool to swim in. Have a massive comfy bed and apartment was so spacious. Also had bottle of wine and home made cake which was a lovely touch."

"It is about 15 mins walk from the old town up a step hill so be aware. But that meant it was quiet at night. No washing machine but there was the facility if you asked, and no specific oven just a microwave"

"The location was spectacular with panoramic views over Funchal, and was well worth it despite the steep hill climb coming back which only took about 12-15 minutes from the old town. The Gardens were beautiful with plenty of places to go to sit quietly or do some yoga. There was a lovely terrace at the top of the Qinta where you could enjoy a relaxing drink, and also a bus stop over the road to take you into Funchal or up to the Botanical Gardens. Helena was very helpful and always available and she allowed us to stay a little longer during the day as our return flight was late afternoon. If you want a different experience staying in Funchal and enjoy history and peace and quiet, but still not far from the old town, then this is the stay for you."

"This apartment is in an excellent location - very peaceful with lovely views. We used the pool a few times - chilly at that time of year, but refreshing! There is a bus stop outside the gates and an excellent bakery and convenience store close by. We could easily walk into town for meals out and to access other buses, but it's a steep hill (which we liked because we enjoy hiking)."

"Excellent location. Walking distance from the city center, a nice bakery close by - walked there every morning for fresh bread for breakfast. The hosts are amazing and will help out with everything. Really reccomend to ask them for recommendations for dinner, car rentals, trips and everything you could think of. They made the trip a breeze."

"I highly recommend this accommodation especially if you are renting a car. There was always space to park right in front of the studio. An amazing view from the roof terrace, lovely garden and pool area. If you want to buy fresh local products and cook yourself there is everything you need. Also a bakery near by with delicious local products and a small shop as well. (we walked there almost every morning to get fresh baked goodies to start the day) Our apartment was very clean, cozy and quiet at night. The location seems very calm and safe. The couple who run this place are lovely people and will take good care of you (but also give you privacy)."

"The only thing is the steep walk up the hill when you return from Funchal. If you are not quite fit, take a taxi (they are very affordable!)."
