This historic building was said to have been opened in 1843 by the British literacy icon, Charles Dickens. "Extremely helpful and friendly staff, enthusiastic greeting on arrival and asking to help with bags. Location excellent for the city centre, just a short walk from The Oracle and Riverside. Very reasonable prices for an overnight stay. Comfortable bed with nice white sheets. Yorkshire Teabags in room a welcoming touch. Can't comment on breakfast as haven't partaken, but have stayed here several times and it's always done the job nicely. Staff are open about the fact they have music in the bar until late at the weekend so you know that's how it will be. It has never bothered me but might be worth taking earplugs if you are staying at the weekend and a light sleeper."

"We had an odd number of pillows in the room (3) and couldn’t find a spare. My partner and I are both pillow huggers so it was a bit awkward, but that’s personal preference and not much of a low point."

"Virkelig super valuta for pengene. Dejligt hostel - vi havde et familieværelse, som endda havde bad og toilet tilknyttet værelset. Der er super god gratis parkering, og der er dejlige fællesarealer - både køkken og hyggearealer. Der var en god betjening og ca. 25 minutters gang til York centrum langs floden. Et skønt sted, som jeg vil anbefale. Desunden er York som by ret så fantastisk!"
